Local communities and states within the United States now have more control over testing and educational standards ever since President Obama signed the educational reforms last week. These reforms focus on the national goal of making sure that all students graduate prepared for not only college, but also their future careers.
The reform law urges the fifty state governments to place a limit on just how many and how often students take exams. This way, the high-stakes nature of testing for underperforming schools will be limited. In addition to this, the national government will be prohibited from dictating states and communities on how to evaluate schools and teacher performances. The new law will be the replacement of the No Child Left Behind measure that was approved in 2002.
