S.754 – Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2015 commonly knowns as CISA is a Senate bill passed last October 27, 2015 encouraging all business establishment to divulge or perhaps in lighter terms- share information against malicious threats from hackers and to take preventive measures putting a stop to vulnerable attacks online.
The Bill stipulates as follows:
To detect, prevent, or mitigate cybersecurity threats or security vulnerabilities, private entities may monitor and operate defensive measures on: (1) their own information systems; and (2) with written consent, the information systems of other private or government entities.
The pros and cons on this issues lies within the capability of individuals undertaking over such acts and whether or not they can really be prevented. The Department of Homeland Security (US) is assigned to gather collective data and in turn relay the information to private sectors for them to action with measures that aren’t fully disclosed.
Some advocates are not convinced this will solidify the act against cybercrime but given a little more time for both government and private entities to improve on their counter measures, hopefully this can ensure a more secure and safer web access for everybody.
