At the latest ASEAN Plus Three Junior Science Odyssey (APTJSO) held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños last week, a team of young FIlipino scientists went home with 15 medals and two top places in the competition.
APTJSO is a yearly competition that started four years ago. It aims to develop the gifts and talents of students aged 13 to 15 years old. The competition focuses on science and technology in order to train aspiring scientists and engineers in the near future. Participating countries include China, Taipei, South Korea, Sweden and other ASEAN countries.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) issued an announcement that the Philippine team dominated the competition in different parts of the competition. Some of those parts include poster presentations and laboratory skills.
Two teams from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) gathered the overall second and third places, while the first place was won by a team of students from Brunei.
For four years straight, students from the Philippines consistently excelled in the Science competition.
