April 18, 2023: US, Europe, and Asian Equities Quick Review

US INDEX

In the US, the stock market went up as investors evaluated the latest earnings reports from companies in the first quarter. Even though there were concerns about a possible recession, investors remained cautious about any further tightening of monetary policies. The S&P 500 and DJIA both closed higher. The S&P 500 closed at 4,151.32 (+0.33% DoD) and the DJIA closed at 33,987.18 (+0.30% DoD).

EUROPE INDEX

In Europe, the stock market slightly declined as investors monitored the earnings reports from companies in the first quarter. The MSCI Europe closed lower. The MSCI Europe closed at 156.89 (-0.02% DoD).

ASIAN INDICES

In Asia Pacific, the stock market had mixed results but overall rose slightly. Investors were analyzing recent data related to economic growth and inflation, and were also anticipating upcoming data from China. The MSCI APxJ ended higher than the previous day’s closing. The MSCI APxJ closed at 529.90 (+0.32% DoD).
