An Australian Startup Hub to Rival Silicon Valley?

Canva, Atlassian and other tech leaders in Australia are coming together to create a startup hub in Sydney, Australie–one that will rival the world’s best, Silicon Valley.

According to the announcement released Tuesday, the new group, TechSydney, will be the central organising force in the country’s startup scene. It intends to help those involved to work together and create something great.

Founder of Spreets Dean McEvoy, muru-D’s Mick Liubinska OneShift’s Gen George among others, started TechSydney. Other big names that have signed up to support this venture include cofounder of muru-D Annie Parker, cofounder of Canva Cameron Adams, managing partner of Airtree Ventures Craig Blair and co-founder of Atlassian Mike Cannon-Brookes. Uber and Airbnb are also reported to have offered support along with other overseas unicorns that have local office.

TechSyndey’s first order of business would be to address issues like how to bridge the gap between startups and the government, as well as how to help startups to attract the best talent and promote Sydney overseas as an entrepreneurial hub.
