The country’s Bureau of Customs (BOC) launched a mobile app developed especially for OFWs and Balikbayans. Known as the Balikbayan Tax Calculator, the app aims to help them estimate the amount of tax and duties that they have to pay for the packages they send to the Philippines. The app is capable of giving an estimate value to the commonly sent items declared by the user.
According to the BOC, the app was designed to answer any questions related to the parcels and other related matters. It was created as an answer to the heavy volume of concerns posed daily on the Bureau.
As of this moment, the mobile is only available for download in Google Play Store. Using the app, OFWs and senders abroad can track the shipments they sent to the Philippines using the tracker integrated in the app.
BOC encouraged the public, not just the OFWs to download and try the app for them to have the basic knowledge in importation as well as the payment procedures of duties and taxes. The Bureau is now preparing the app for iOS users.
