Last March 15, 2016, Barangay Captain Manuel Guanzon and project coordinator of project “Team Up Clean Up” Joan-Paula Zanoria (Pillows Hotel Manager) led the signing of a commitment for a cleaner and greener Cebu. Included in the gathering are thirty establishments located at Capitol site, which included hotels, inns, pension houses, lodging houses and B&Bs.
On Saturday, March 19, 2016 participating hotels will band together to clean the streets of Capitol and celebrate Earth Hour. The event will kick off the establishments’ commitment to participate every third Saturday of the month in the cleaning the streets of Capitol Site area.
According to Barangay Captain Guanzon, hotels are one of the biggest contributors of the overall disposals being collected in the barangay. Guanzon also suggested that hoteliers should gather and create a clean and green project that will ultimately be beneficial to the whole populace of Cebu, and not just the hoteliers.
According to recent statistics, 70% of hotel guests only recommend their experience to friends and acquaintances if the hotel was clean and practice good hygiene. It must also be considered that cleanliness does not stop within the property alone, but should extend to its surrounding areas.
