Facebook Wants You to Hear More from Family and Friends

In an attempt to keep people connected with whom they care about, Facebook is changing its Newsfeed algorithm to show more posts from their friends and family. The algorithm will analyze your behavior and activity on the site and learn from it. For example, if you react or comment on a post made by a friend, Facebook will prioritize that person’s posts and as a result, they will surface more on your newsfeed.

Adam Mosseri, Facebook vice president of management, wrote that connecting people to whom they want to connect with was their top priority.

The impact of this new change on the  reach and traffic of posts from publishers and page administrators has drawn a lot of discussion. Mosseri said that it could cause a decline but that would depend on the audience composition of the page.

The retooling is part of Facebook’s efforts to filter out spam and misleading content in order to promote more ‘authentic’ posts.
