For pasta lovers who have mixed feelings about carbohydrates, a group of European researchers have found a good alternative for them.

According to Vito Verardo, a researcher from the University of Almeria, they have created a ‘super spaghetti’, a type of pasta which contains various health benefits. Verardo said that they analyzed 15 varieties of barley to find the best type with the most number of bioactive compounds. Bioactive compounds are known to promote good health and combat cancer and other related diseases.

Ana Maria Gomez, a researcher from the University of Granada, added that the super spaghetti contains up to 70 percent of the daily requirements of beta-glucans. Beta-glucans are natural sugars that can be found in the cell walls of plants such as barley and oats. It is scientifically proven that they can help reduce cholesterol level and can boost the immune system of those people who are suffering from stress.

The researchers do not claim that the super spaghetti can cure diseases. However, they recommend it for those who would love to have a healthier choice of pasta.
