It wasn’t that long when newly-elected President Rodrigo Duterte declared his disapproval towards illegal mining activities in the country.
Philex Mining Corporation, one of Philippines’ largest and most successful mining company actively expressed their support for the president’s plan. Michael T. Toledo, Philex senior vice president for Public and Regulatory Affairs, issued a statement that the company is ready to provide its full backing towards the president’s effort to answer the issue that has spoiled the image of their industry. He further elaborated, that they do not want to be associated with the vagabonds in the country.
Toledo added that Philex has been a responsible mining company for 60 years, an image that they maintain with utmost intention. Their IMS Certification, various awards on corporate governance and sustainability, as well their active participation in government transparency initiatives validates their credibility as a responsible mining firm.
He noted that, as a company, Philex is in full agreement with the President Duterte’s vision in preserving the natural resources of the Philippines and in promoting impartial share of revenues from the country’s natural treasures.
Philex also aims to inspire other mining companies especially in following the necessary rules and regulations implemented to ensure environment protection.
