Efficient Traffic Management Boosts Binondo Businesses

The Manila City Government said that commercial activities of the country’s oldest economic hub in Binondo significantly improved due to the efficient traffic management in the area. In an interview with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, he said that the city government aims to restore the “glory years” of the Manila through various redevelopments and programs, one of which is addressing the traffic congestion that has plagued Binondo in the past years.

“I have always been very vocal about my desire to restore Manila to its former glory and Manila would not be what it is today without the economic, historic and cultural contributions of Binondo and its outlying areas, which we all affectionately refer to as Chinatown,” Estrada said a week before the Chinese New Year. “I have not changed my priorities in this regard. Binondo’s redevelopment will continue to be a flagship program of my administration.”

Binondo is the oldest Chinatown in the world with 400 years of history with it. It has been the the heart of Filipino-Chinese community, becoming the center of Manila’s trade and commerce and also tourism.
