Globe Supports DICT Bill Enactment

Globe Telecom, Inc. is pushing for the establishment of the Department of Information and Communications Technology in order to help improve the country’s internet. Globe General Counsel Froilan Castelo has said that, “The Philippines is in urgent need of an agency that will drive the country’s ICT development and help steer the country to realize its full potential as a digital economy where homes, businesses and individuals have access to fast and reliable data connectivity.”

A DICT can be expected to provide appropriate policy frameworks for ICT development in the country whilst promoting continuity of those policies. President Benigno S.C. Aquino has a 30-day review period before the bill is signed. An unsigned bill will lapse into law without a veto. The enacted bill will abolish all operating units of the Department of Transportation and Communications that deal with communications.
