Metro Pacific Reports 25% Increase in Net Income

Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) reported a net income of nearly P7 billion in the first half of the year or about a 25 percent jump from last year. The company’s toll road business in the country and in Vietnam registered a strong performance, going up by 13 percent due to robust traffic growth.

With the positive showing of its toll road business, the group is planning to invest more in road projects in the ASEAN region.

Jose Ma. Lim, president and CEO of MPIC, said they are eyeing several toll road projects in Indonesia and Malaysia. Lim said the road project will be done through joint venture agreements with local partners.

MPIC is currently involved in the toll road sector of  ASEAN countries like Thailand and Vietnam. The company holds a 29.45 percent stake Thai road operator Don Muang Tollway Public Co. Ltd and a 45 percent share in Vietnam’s CII Bridges and Roads Investment Joint Stock Co.

Aside from its toll road operations the company also net operating income from its hospital and power (generation and distribution) business.
